Bloom Where You Are Planted: Trust God in Your Season

·

·

Sometimes, the place we think we’re meant to be isn’t where God is actually calling us to flourish.

For years, my family and I have dreamed of moving to the mountains. It’s where we feel alive—where the air feels fresher, the views more inspiring, and life slows down just enough to breathe. But after putting our house on the market for six months and making offers on three different homes—only to have each one declined—we realized something important: we weren’t living for God. We were living for us.

Stop Forcing Doors That Aren’t Meant to Open

It’s so easy to try to control our circumstances, to force open doors that God hasn’t opened yet. I’ve been there. I’ve chased what I thought was my “perfect” life, only to feel disappointed, frustrated, and stuck.

Finally, we made a decision: we would stop forcing the doors and trust God’s timing. We chose to stay put for now, to embrace the life we have, and to look for opportunities where we already are.

Opportunities Begin When You Say Yes

As soon as we stopped striving for our own agenda, doors began opening in ways we didn’t plan:

  • We started serving in a new capacities at our church.
  • My husband became a deacon and is launching TrailLife at our church.
  • We found an incredible co-op for our kindergartener.
  • Opportunities we didn’t even know existed started presenting themselves—all because we said yes instead of giving up.

God began to show us that life doesn’t have to look perfect, and blessings don’t only come when we get exactly what we want.

Bloom Where You Are

Blooming where you are planted doesn’t mean giving up your dreams. It doesn’t mean staying in a situation that is harmful or dangerous. It means trusting God in the waiting, finding purpose where you are, and saying yes to the opportunities He gives you.

We still dream of living in the mountains—100%. But we also trust that if and when the timing is right, God will lead us there. In the meantime, we are growing, serving, and thriving right where we are.

Your Turn to Reflect

Take a moment to think about your life right now:

  • Are you chasing your own plans instead of God’s?
  • Are you forcing doors open that aren’t meant to be opened?
  • Are there opportunities around you that you’ve been ignoring while focused on what you think “should” happen?

Saying yes to the life God has for you right now can open doors you didn’t even see coming. You can bloom, grow, and make an impact, even in the season you didn’t expect.

A Few Ways to Bloom Where You Are

  • Serve in your community or church—look for ways to give, even if small.
  • Say yes to opportunities, even if they weren’t part of your plan.
  • Trust God with your long-term dreams, but focus on doing the next right thing today.
  • Reflect daily on blessings in your current season—you may find growth where you never imagined.

Trust the Process

Life may not look like what you envisioned, but God is still at work. Sometimes waiting and blooming where you are planted is exactly what prepares you for the next chapter.

We may still live in the mountains one day—but until then, we are thriving, saying yes, and trusting God with every step.

Bloom where you are planted—and watch God do something extraordinary in your life.
